Breakdown of Titrations

  • We would recommend revising the acid and base chapter before studying these notes.

There are 3 types of titrations that can come up:

  1. Acid-Base
  2. Redox
  3. Water

There are 8 different titrations that they can ask:

Acid-Base

  1. Sodium Carbonate vs. HCl
  2. Percentage of water of crystallisation in washing soda
  3. Find the percentage of ethanoic acid in vinegar

Redox (Potassium Manganate KMnO4 vs iron) 1. To find the percentage of iron in an iron tablet

Redox (Iodine vs Thiosulfate)

  1. Iodine vs Thiosulfate
  2. The amount of hypochlorite in bleach

Water

  1. The hardness of water in a sample.
  2. The amount of dissolved oxygen in water (this is also an iodine vs. thiosulfate titratin)
